Eighteen residents from the Rush Department of Anesthesiology participated in the 2010 Midwest Anesthesia Resident's Conference (MARC) including Drs. Maruti Kari, Emad Attallah-Wasif, Arnold Deleon, Darlene Recker Edward Baumgartner, Adam Young, Jamie Cauveren, Louie Anthony Jain, Josh Auerbach, Karl Disque, Elizabeth Mahanna, Christopher Skorke, Vijay Pallekonda, Farooq Khan, Vijay Thillainathan, Smitha Arekapudi, Vipul Mangal, and David Wong.
In addition, Departmental faculty members, Drs. Angelina Bhandari, Joel Biala, Brian Birmingham, Brian Meyers, Parag Patel, Patricia Perry, J. Richard Toleikis also attended the meeting, many of whom provided assistance in moderating and judging the presentations. This year the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine hosted the meeting on February 19-21, 2010 in Cincinnati Ohio. William E Hurford, M.D. Professor and Chair Department of Anesthesiology University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center and John Lawrence, M.D.
Program Director of Anesthesia Residency and Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesia, at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center will co-host the meeting.
The MARC is the fourth largest Anesthesiology Meeting in the country and has a long history of presensing the latest information in the rapidly expanding medical specialty of anesthesiology.
Residents, fellows, medical students, and faculty from over 30 academic institutions convene to present scientific abstracts including case reports, and attend educational panels in an atmosphere of professional collegiality. Many of these institutions participated in last year's meeting which was held in Chicago, and hosted by Rush University Medical Center's, Department of Anesthesiology.
The Department extends its appreciation to all of the Rush's residents, faculty and staff whose efforts helped to make this year’s MARC a very rewarding experience.
The five residents who received first place awards for their presentation are included below.

Dr. Jaime Cauveren, CA-3, won in the Equipment/Monitoring Session with her presentation entitled, "Are Standard EMG Monitoring Techniques Effective For Monitoring Minimally Invasive Lumbar Fusion Procedures?"

Dr. Farooq Khan, CA3, won in the Pediatric Clinical session with his case report presentation entitled “Airway Complication In The Endoscopic Repair Of A Recurrent Tracheoesophageal Fistula Using Cauterization And Fibrin Sealant”

Dr. Vipul Mangal, CA-1, won in the Neuroanesthesia Clinical Session with his case report presentation entitled "Myasthenia Gravis Post Cervical Discectomy."

Dr. Christopher Skorke, CA-3 won in the Cardiac/Thoracic Clinical Session with his case report presentation entitled "Ectopia Cordis."

Dr. Vijay Thillinathan, CA-2, won in the Critical Care/Trauma Clinical Session with his case report presentation entitled "Pulmonary Capillary Leak Syndrome As A Result Of Okt-3 Therapy.
