Rush Dept of Anesthesiology at ASA 2007 Meeting


RUSH Lends its Support to the ASA and to the 2009 ASA Annual Meeting.

The Rush Department of Anesthesiology Faculty and Staff lent its support to the American Association of Anesthesiologists (ASA)  through their participation in the society's 2009 annual meeting, held from October 17-21, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and their membership on ASA Committees and Subcommittees.  A listing of those activities are included below.

Participation in ASA House of Delegates

Farooq Khan, M.D.

Farooq Khan, M.D.,a third-year resident of the Department of Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center who is the current President of the Resident Component of the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists (ISA) represented Illinois at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA)'s Residents House of Delegates at this year's Annual Meeting. He also took office as President of the ASA Residents Component of the ASA House of Delegates. As President, Dr. Khan will work to fulfill the mission of both the ISA and ASA Resident Components, which include efforts to: Encourage residents to participate in the activities of the ISA and the ASA. Nurture leadership in organized medicine. Communicate resident concerns to the ISA Board of Directors and participate in the decision-making process. Facilitate transition to active membership in the ISA and ASA upon completion of residency.

ASA is governed by its House of Delegates, which meets each year during the Society's Annual Meeting. The House of Delegates. is comprised of ASA Delegates and Directors (designated by geographic distribution), ASA Officers, Past Presidents, the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Anesthesiology, Chairs of the Sections on Administration, Representation, Professional Standards, Professional Practice, Society Subspecialties, Education and Research, Annual Meeting and Clinical Care, and the ASA Delegate to the AMA House of Delegates.

Drs. Tuman, Rothenberg and Buvanendran from the Department of Anesthesiology at Rush served as Delegates to the ASA House of Delegates during this year's meeting.

During the interim between the meetings of the House of Delegates, the ASA Board of Directors exercises authority to manage the business and financial affairs of the Society, and superintends and directs the publication and distribution of all official documents, journals and reports consistent with policies of the House of Delegates. The Board of Directors meets three times each year. The Society also has many special committees comprised of the nation's outstanding anesthesiologists. In addition, 55 Component Societies work to implement and complement the Society's goals at the community level.
